Amazing book
This is a wonderful trip through the history of Fortune Records. Norton/Kicks Crowning Achievement.
This book is the absolute culmination of all things Norton. The care and detailed research into what is one of music history's last mystery appeals to die hard Nortonians and casual readers. If this isn't the book of the year I don't know what could compete! R.I.P Billy...

RAVE REVIEW
As one who's read every book, absorbed every word ever written on the subject of vintage R&B, I've got to say this is the most exhaustive work I've ever seen. Worth every red cent to someone like me. They will be hearing from my attorney, however, I think I hurt my back lifting it.

Jaw-Dropping!
I had been anticipating this book for years, but was not even remotely prepared for the result. Billy and Mike have unearthed more stories about Fortune, and Detroit music in general, than I ever thought possible. Well-written, authoritative, and loads of fun to hear the stories of the many (many!) characters involved with Fortune. A And then there are the graphics - WOW! Color label scans on almost every page, amazing photos of even some of the most obscure artists, gig flyers, and the famed studio in various states of decay. This book is a treasure - the best label history I've ever seen bar none.

Just plain great
Very enjoyable reading. Covers all aspects of Fortune/Hi-Q. A real asset. Recreates a fascination about Fortune and what it meant to Detroit and also about the music itself.

An Indispensable Book
'Mind Over Matter' — years in the making and nearly the stuff of myth by the time of its publication — exceeds any and all of my expectations. 'Labor Of Love' only goes part of the way to describing this well-written, exhaustively researched and gorgeously mounted history of the Detroit label that seemed determined to elude historians in decades past. Congratulations both to the book's authors and to Kicks Books proprietor/editor Miriam Linna for releasing this essential text and doing so with style to burn.
